April 2023 wrap-up | When life takes a 180 turn…

My Saturn Return hit like a fast train and oh boy, is my life a mess right now 😅 The only good part is that I’m taking more time for myself and truly getting to know who I am, on top of hoping and ✨manifesting✨ what I want for my future. And oh, what a future will it be!

I feel like I’m slowly, but steadily, going back to my reading habits, and this April I read a total of 3 books (and half of another one), which is a victory for me. And they were all 4 stars, so I also count that as a win.

📚 The Fine Print (⭐⭐⭐⭐)

As always, I try to alternate between romance and fantasy so I don’t get bored. And this April I started two book series, and the Dreamland Billionaires was the first of them.

The Fine Print sets the scene for these three brothers who must complete their grandfather’s last wishes to get his inheritance. Rowan and Iris are a cute couple to follow, with some nice steamy scenes, but some problematic aspects to their relationship 😬

📚 The Poppy War (⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Speaking of starting new book series, I FINALLY started The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang.

My expectations were at an all-time high and, don’t get me wrong, it was such an amazing read. The action, the cruel but somewhat real portrayals of war, Rin’s ruthlessness and focus, it is a great ride to go on.

But it wasn’t quite the five star read I was expecting. I can’t point out exactly what was missing, but it didn’t meet my expectations.

📚 How High We Go In the Dark (⭐⭐⭐⭐)

After a contemporary romance and an historical fantasy, what better to read than a dystopian sci-fi? How High We Go In the Dark was one of those books I picked up on a whim after seeing a raving review and what an experience.

The premise is simple: what if an old virus, frozen in the Artic, is released to the world? In this book you follow several short stories portraying how humanity is changed by this experience and its journey with grief in a large scale.

📺 Sanditon

Regency era TV shows are my addiction, and although Sanditon fell under my radar for awhile, I picked it up once it was finished.

After a first season that promised much but fell away after the main love interest left the show, seasons 2 and 3 are basically a Pride & Prejudice 2.0. There was drama, pining, a dark, tall and brooding love interest and it was a fine watch, although nothing new.

📺 The White Lotus

Look, yes this is an entertaining show. it’s always fun to see rich people being screwed or screwing themselves. And yes, it is satire and supposed to show how oblivious some people can be.

But I don’t get the hype? The way people talked about it made it seem like it was one of the best shows in the last years, and yes it’s cool, but not life changing.

🎬 Warrior (2011)

My boyfriend made me watch this movie because he’s an UFC fan. And I expected nothing from it, but I got so invested! I was legit getting stressed out and anxious over what was going to happen.

If you’re looking from an underrated movie about an underdog achieving great things, saving his family in more ways than one, and overcoming all odds, this is the perfect movie for you!

🎬 Ghosted (2023)

Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, my two celebrity crushes, together in a movie? Sign me up!!

Let’s be real, I only watched this movie for the 2 of them. Although the premise of gender-bend James Bond is cool, it was your typical comedy spy movie with great cameos, but nothing groundbreaking. There could be hours less well spent, I guess.

All the other movies were actually pretty cool to watch, and across a variety of genres. I must say though, if you’re not into gore, don’t watch Evil Dead Rise.

How was your April?
